How much do your cakes cost?  TOP

Wedding Cake Pricing              Special Occasion Cake Pricing           Store Menu

This is greatly variable based on the design and size of the cake.  Naturally, a large, intricate cake is going to cost you more than a small, simple cake.  Starting price information can be found using the above links.  All tiered cakes are priced as wedding cakes.  Ultimately, you determine the cost of your cake.  How much are you willing to pay for the cake of your dreams?

How can I pay and when is it due? TOP

We accept cash, checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.  Final wedding cake payments are due 4 weeks prior to the event and final special occasion cake payments are due one week prior to pickup.  The reason for the difference is the greater level of difficulty and involvement with wedding cakes as well as the fact that I don’t often see anyone but the caterers on the day of.

What is your cancellation policy? TOP

All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable to another date or order.  Any monies paid beyond the initial deposit will be refunded, providing that no work has been completed on your cake.  If a portion or all of the work has been completed, partial refunds will be determined on a case-by-case basis.  If payment for a wedding cake has not been received by 2 weeks prior to the event, the order will be cancelled and no refund will be issued.

How much cake do I need? TOP

You want to make sure there is enough cake so that every guest who would like a slice may have one.  Start with your realistic guest count and then consider the several factors that affect cake consumption.

You may need more cake if you: are having a longer reception, are serving lighter food, are not serving alcohol or other sweets, are having multiple flavors, or have a family that just plain loves cake.

You may be able to get away with fewer servings if you: are having a shorter reception, are serving lots of heavy food, anticipate heavy alcohol consumption, or will have other desserts or sweets available to your guests.

Most of my customers (party and wedding alike) order an amount matching the anticipated guest count and end up with just a little left over.

How much notice do you need? TOP

The minimum notice for any cake is 48 hours, but we prefer at least 7 days.  Wedding cakes should be ordered with at least one month notice.  It is not uncommon for us to have wedding cake orders placed 6-18 months in advance. We try to accommodate every order, however during busy times this may not be possible.  For this reason, we recommend reserving your cake as soon as you have made the decision to work with us.

How do I reserve a cake? TOP

First, call or email to make sure that the date is still available.  Special occasion cake orders are taken via phone, email, or in person and we do not offer tasting consultations for these cakes.  Wedding cake orders may be taken via phone, email, or (more commonly) we will set up a time for a tasting consultation to discuss your order in depth.  Wedding cakes require a 30% deposit.  Special Occasion cake orders over $100 require a $50 deposit and all cakes must be paid in full one week prior to pickup.  Deposits are applied toward the balance due, but are non-refundable and non-transferable should you choose to cancel.

Can I plan my wedding cake long distance? TOP

Yes!  We can plan everything via phone and email for those brides who are out of state, elsewhere in state, or just plain busy, busy, busy.  We will be happy to prepare cake samples for your trusted taster to pick up.

What should I be doing before my tasting consultation? TOP

Why, dreaming about cake of course!  Take a look through our website (and the scores of others out there), magazines, and books to get an idea of what you do and don’t like.  We will be discussing shape (round, square, hexagon, oval, scallop, or heart), color, style, and many other aspects.  Your cake should look at home at your reception, so spend some time considering what the feel of it will be… mod? Victorian? Minimalist?  Take a look at our flavor list and think of what flavor(s) of cake you might like to have, as well as any serious allergies you may want to accommodate.

What should I bring to the tasting consultation? TOP

All you really need to bring is your sweet tooth, but having examples of cakes you like, your dress, and the colors you would like to use as well as all of the people integral to your decision making process will help us make the most of our time.

Do I have to pick a cake from your portfolio? TOP

Absolutely not!  While it is certainly ok to do so, and many people have, the cakes in my portfolio are simply what other brides have chosen in the past.  It is more common that we take cues from some of these cakes as examples to design something custom and unique to you.

Can you match my colors/dress/invitations? TOP

Yes!  You will need to provide swatches/photos/samples for us to get a truly accurate representation.  We will make every possible effort to translate your cake dreams into reality and are confident that we can turn out a product that you will be delighted with – but please bear in mind that printer inks and couture fashion do not always translate exactly into sugar form, and precise matches are sometimes impossible.

When do you need my final order?  TOP

For wedding cakes, all final guest counts, flavor changes, etc… must be in by the final payment due date, which is one month prior to the event.

When will you be making my cake?  TOP

Typically, a wedding cake for a Saturday will be baked on Wednesday, filled on Thursday, and decorated on Friday.

What is the deal with saving the top tier of my wedding cake? TOP

A tradition started long ago: fruitcake was the traditional wedding cake (which was kept at room temperature and its flavor actually improved with the passing of time) and the top (or top several) tiers were set aside for the first baby’s christening, an event usually following the wedding by about a year.  Times have changed and the tradition has adapted into freezing the top tier for the one-year wedding anniversary.

Brides that wish to continue this tradition should mention their intent so that we may determine the appropriate size for your cake.  Once the wedding is over, the cake should be frozen for 12-24 hours to preserve decorations.  Then wrap the cake itself tightly in Glad Press ‘n’ Seal (really good stuff) and then in tin foil.  Place the cake back in its box and repeat the wrappings.  Wait one year, remembering to pay the electric bill and keep it away from the salmon.  24 hours before consumption, remove all wrappings, place cake back in box, wrap once more in plastic, and place it in the refrigerator (condensation from thawing will form on the wrap, not the cake).  1-2 hours before consumption, allow cake to come to room temperature for maximum enjoyment.

For those brides that wish to maximize their wedding dollar by serving the entire cake at the reception, or just those who don’t want to deal with an 8” cake box in their freezer for an entire year, we invite you to order your complimentary anniversary tier the following year with about one week’s notice.  It is not a replica, but it is topper sized and will be baked fresh in whatever flavor you choose.  You must call to order this cake.

What is a groom’s cake? TOP

Back when bride’s cakes were white-white-white, groom’s cakes were an opportunity to slip in something more decadent like chocolate or carrot cake.  Nowadays, bride’s cakes offer much more customization and flavor choices so the groom’s cake, if desired, serves as a playful counterpoint to the stately bride’s cake.  Often times it is a surprise for the groom from the bride and depicts a hobby or amusing side of the groom’s personality.  It can be used to add additional servings for larger weddings, or can be served the night before at the rehearsal dinner.  Groom’s cakes are priced the same as wedding cakes, but you receive a 30% discount when it is purchased in conjunction with a bride’s cake.

What is rolled fondant?  I love the look but how does it taste? TOP

Rolled fondant is a powdered sugar based rolled icing that is extremely versatile: it can be molded, painted, draped, and made to shimmer.  We roll it about 1/8” thick and put it over a full coating of buttercream.  You are not giving up any of the taste to have the look.  It is sweeter than our buttercream, but actually tastes very good (a little like marshmallow).  I use Satin Ice brand fondant and many, many customers are pleasantly surprised that it is not the ill-tasting fondant they may have had in the past from other sources.  Satin Ice fondant is Kosher Pareve.

Yes and no.  Local delivery is always included on wedding cakes inside the Anchorage/Eagle River area.  Deliveries to Elmendorf AFB or Fort Richardson are $50 and deliveries to Girdwood, Palmer, and Wasilla are $100.  Please inquire for charges to other locations

Due to our limited resources, delivery is probably not available for your special occasion cake.  Delivery requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for special occasion cakes that are unusually large or fragile.  There is a charge for these deliveries.

If we cannot gain entry to the site at the scheduled time of delivery, the cake will be returned to the bakery and the delivery will become the responsibility of the customer.
